CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS OF INTEREST PUBLIC ART PROJECT
Kay Meek Arts Centre
The Kay Meek Arts Centre is pleased to announce the following sculpture competition, and is putting out a call to artists to submit their interest in being considered for a commissioned pubic artwork for one of three locations in the exterior garden area of the Centre. This first work is being commissioned in honour of the late Mrs. Yulanda Faris. Information about Mrs. Faris is below.
ABOUT KAY MEEK
Opened in 2004, the Kay Meek Arts Centre is the only independently operated not-for-profit arts centre on the North Shore. Located in West Vancouver, adjacent to West Vancouver Secondary School, it is an active facility. Every year Kay Meek presents a multi-disciplinary season of performances (music, theatre, dance), rents its facility to professional and community arts groups and hosts close to 100 student events. In 2017/18 a total of 369 events took place at the Kay Meek, with more than 60,000 attending.
Starting in July 2019, the Centre will begin significant renovations in order to make access to, and within, the building easier for those with mobility challenges and the public at large. Exterior renovations include widening walkways, adding outdoor seating areas and the development of a public sculpture garden. The outdoor area is accessible 24-hours a day, and is used by visitors attending events at the Centre, residents of West Vancouver and students who attend West Vancouver Secondary School.
