Negotiating Successful Community Partnerships Between Cultural Organizations (Online)

While it seems logical that cultural organizations would work together to promote the arts in a community, challenges often emerge. Lack of capacity, fear of "competition" for patrons, and difficulties accepting change are all factors that add friction to partnership models. In this workshop you will explore case studies of communities who have successfully leveraged community partnerships. We will examine several models of collaboration (such as centralized ticketing, shared back-office resources, shared mailing databases, collaborative marketing ventures, and fusions between different genres of art). You will hear what is working, what is not, and how organizations can overcome common obstacles. Participants will finish the series with a thorough understanding of successful community partnership models currently in operation, and will be equipped with the knowledge needed to negotiate effective relationships and avoid pitfalls to collaboration along the way.
This workshop is designed to fill the gap between a typical short webinar and a longer online course. Each workshop is led by an international expert, combines lectures and small group discussion, and meets online for two (2) hours, once a week for three weeks. There is also an online discussion board for sharing information and group discussion during the three weeks. There is no grading.
