2010 Legacies Now and the Creative City Network of Canada have developed three resources to assist local governments, arts, cultural and heritage organizations with the processes of cultural planning and mapping and the development and management of public art programs and projects in a community. The Cultural Mapping, Cultural Planning and Public Art Toolkits include adaptable models, examples, and practical checklists for navigating and charting progress.
These toolkits have been developed to encourage community leaders, planners and local government staff to explore the potential of cultural planning and mapping and public art. In particular, they demonstrate how cultural resources can support the delivery of a spectrum of community priorities.
The Creative City Network of Canada has also published a special feature on Making the Case for Culture, a series of six papers that detail “how and why” culture is key to our betterment.
These documents make the case for:
- Culture as an Economic Engine
- Urban Renewal and Revitalization
- Building Community Identity and Pride
- Arts and Positive Change in Communities
- Quality of Life/Quality of Place
- Personal and Social Development and Youth
