Day Three started off with an informative Session (F) on the Cultural Capitals of Canada Program from the Department of Canadian Heritage. Robert Hunter from DCH gave an overview of the program followed by three short presentations from past and current Cultural Capitals of Canada including Fredericton, NB; Saskatoon, SK; and Edmonton, AB. The AGM was then followed by Round-Table Meetings organized by municipal population. Delegates were invited to sit down with their colleagues to discuss the issues that are faced by similar sized municipalities across Canada. Notes were taken and were submitted to Board Members for discussion. Session G titled Community Engagement 2: Social Networking/Marketing, featured an interactive presentation by writer, technologist, marketer and professional speaker, Darren Barefoot. Darren’s presentation addressed the do’s and don’ts of social media and was very engaging as he used examples drawn from the audience. Following Darren’s presentation, attendees also heard from David Plouffe of Calgary, AB and Bernard Cormier from Saint John, NB who spoke to their experiences using social media tools for marketing and networking in their municipalities. This discussion was followed by a very useful Q&A period. The Conference was closed by outgoing President Betty Anne Keller and incoming President and Conference Chair Angela Watson who shared her closing remarks and reflection of the 2009 Creative City Conference. |
