Chicago, IL (United States) – Mapping cultural participation in Chicago
Lalonde, M. et als. (2006). Chicago: University of Chicago, Cultural Policy Center.
First study of its kind in a major US metropolitan centre finds that while race and ethnicity do play a role in lower participation rates among African-Americans and Latinos, socio-economic factors are the strongest predictors of participation. Weblink

Other key findings:
• Smaller ethnic and diverse organizations successfully reach different audiences from those targeted by larger organizations.
• There are large, predominantly white areas, regardless of income, where participation rates are low.
• In the lowest participation communities, an average of one in twenty households was involved in the largest organizations.

With its final report released in May 12, 2002, this McKnight Foundation project tried to gauge the extent of suburban arts development, and to raise its profile with artists, arts administrators, arts patrons, funders, and public officials. Detailed guide to conducting audience research, including advice on “how to plan an audience research campaign from inception through to analysis and implementation”. Different research techniques are covered, including informal observation, focus groups and questionnaires.

Collaborative Performance Measures Project
In Fall 2002, the Ontario Museum Association began a collaborative performance measures project, funded by the Museums Assistance Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage and various municipalities, involving four Ontario municipal museums: the Wellington County Museum and Archives, Guelph Museums, Doon Heritage Crossroads and the City of Waterloo Heritage Collection. The project aimed to test implementation in a variety of museum contexts and to develop performance measurement models.

Conference papers, proceedings and related documents reporting on the Ontario Museum Association Collaborative Performance Measures Project prepared by the four participating organizations. Measuring the economic and social impacts of local authority events
